I'm on a nice spot for a change. :D

lots of overtime and a 1000euro bonus (minus taxes :( ) coming up, so I'll have something to play around with.

I'm happy with my amp and cabs, need second cabs though. I've got two decent basses and a BigMuff pedal. Just bought a 16-track mixer for band-use. Got all the cables and straps and whatnot.

So, What's the big secret no bassplayer can live without??!!

...in the ballpark of 1000 euros.

...or should I be a man and drink the lot between tits of some courtisan? :D

I have heard good thigns about the Sansamp Bass DI. Also, what basses do you have? What is in them? I ust put Dimarzio's in my ibanez, and it really improved my sound. I am going for new tuners, a new bridge, and a better nut next!

Hmmm.... wouldn't know where to use a DI...
My basses are kinda low-end, a Peavey-ntb5 and some Fernandez jazzbass (could do with maintenance), but they've grown on me. :o

There wouldn't be a bass specially to 4-string b,e,a,d strings and tuning.. That's what the poor Fernandez has been going through.. :D

Come to think of it... I'd like to get a new bridge, a nut and other hardware for it... Know a nice place to find on the net???
..it's missing a screw in the bridge, and the pick-guard.. I tried to make one from stainless but messed it up..
A pick-guar fom flamed or spalted maple would be nice!!
Any place you can order that wood??

The sansamp would go between your bass and your head, I have heard they are great for dialing in yoru tone. In this case, I would say DEFINITELY upgrade yoru hardware. Bartolini or Dimarzio pickups for SURE, emg's if you want to do some more advanced wiring. You can also look into active electronics, onboard EQ's, preamps, etc. I have never been dissappointed with putting active electronics on any guitar or bass.

I use my SansAmp Bass Driver in the effects loop of my Ampeg B2R. The Ampeg is a fairly boring, utilitarian bass amp, and the SansAmp helps me dirty it up some. I'd say its definitely a worthwhile purchase (in a pinch, you can always just plug your bass directly into the SansAmp and go DI into the house PA), especially if you can pick up one on the used market.

if you are looking for another cab (which it seems from your post), I can't recommend Bergantino highly enough. Best cabs I've ever played through. Accurate, great crossover, good bottom end, and smooth up high.

They are built to last a lifetime, and the customer service is second to none.

They are pricey and power hungry, but again, great investment if you are looking for cabs.

thewanderer24 is right on the mark. You can't imagine how lovely they are. You must check out Bergantino Cabinets

Read up on them at Talkbass.com

I'll get the Sansamp bass driver DI..

I'm driving an Ashdown abm500 head, through a custom made 1x18" plus 2x10" , nice clear sound. I like, but a small tweak wouldn't hurt and the direct in possibility.

...goes off to checkout stewmack....

I don't know how much 1000 euros buys

but IMO, besides a SansAmp (can't really say about your cab situation, that's up to you), I'd look at getting a fretless.

On the other hand, I don't know what kind of music you play, so that may not be important.

BTW, I think someone here was selling custom made wood pickguards, it was in their sig. Can't remember who, but you could do a search.

Are you looking to upgrade your live setup more, or your recording setup?

You didn't mention anything about compressor.

And Aguilar DI !!!

There's NONE better!

Trust me!

If its for home recording, I'd suggest you buy beer. If for gigging, hire roadies. At least, that's how I'd spend the money.

I play Metal in two bands.. Mostly clean, Bigmuff to give extra filling, for example when other guitar soloing. Like tight low and high end, not much into the muffled tube-sound. Something like Tool's bass-sound is what I'm after..

Mostly wanna build my live setup... When recording bass I usually just toss something in there.. :o

Will be starting a third, blackmetalband next weekend, I'll probably wear down some picks too. :D

Those bergantino cabs seem promising. though I had been thinking a 8x10..

Not much use for fretless.. in a pinch I can do with a slide!.. :D

anyone got experience on DiMarzio J:s??

I can't give metal advice, it's not my thing.

I always thought one of the best basses for metal would be a Rickenbacker with roundwounds. I'm sure that's more than 1000 euros, though.

Make sure you spend some of that money on hearing protectors. :D
