bass with mic?

Allo,

I saw in a live video once a bassist playing an electric bass with what looked like an sm57 attached to the bridge facing down at the strings. Never saw it again and he only had it for one song. Anyone have any ideas on this? No idea why it would be done. Just curious.

I would assume it was there to pick up the metallic sound of the strings, maybe for some sort of percussive tapping he does on the song.

Anybody got any other ideas?

it could have been a camera to record his finger movements. i saw something like that and i also thought it was a mic at first.

that's the video in question. You get your first good look at it at about 1:49 or so. To me it looks like an sm57. Regardless its a wonderful performance.
