In stead of mounting my traps by hanging them from the walls I am thinking about attaching about 1 1/2 ft 2x4s (4" sticking out the back) on the bottom of the traps to stabilize them then place them about 4 inches in front of the wall. Is there anything wrong with this (other than a little loss of space)?

Also, are all brands of rigid fiberglass essentially equal. I found a carrier of a different brand nearby which is cheaper and claims it is essentially the same. I know that the OC 703 is most always reccomended here but is that just because its easier to find?

shame on you for even looking at anything but 703!!

Ethan said 3traps are better than none...the same would apply i think to your different method.

you'd need one more piece of wood (backside), if not using the walls. :D

fiberglass, turns the sound energy into heat energy..so your method would still do this.

all these little sound electrons and sht bouncing around then getting caught in the fiberglass weave, accelerating their bumping into the walls of the trillions of tiny fiberglass weaves "trapped"... until the little spent electrons give up, they tire out and thier souls disappear and transform into heat energy electrons and our ears and guitars don't care about heat energy electrons...so we now know to BEWARE!!
if you get too much bass going on,
your panels might catch on fire!!

crap likes to build up in the corners (90deg)..up to 9db.
thats why so many bass traps in the corners, i think.

I will be putting them up against walls and in the corners, well a few inches from the walls. I was just wondering if there is a decoupling issue with traps, because making legs seems like an easy mounting solution but everyone talks about hanging them.
