I tried hooking up the elect. bass into my mixing console (Yamaha). Going direct from the bass into the 1/4" line input was too low a level..to be useable (barely audible at 100% gain). The bass amp has a "line out" but doesn't appear to be working properly (level is even lower than direct). Is there a device which gain take bass instrument output and raise it to 1/4" line input?

thanks

DI box. Works like a charm.

I reccomend the Aphex Exciter/Big Bottom enancher. It will get you were you need to be and give you some sweet tone in the process.

Yep, a DI is what you need. I would say avoid exciters/BBE's like the plague but to each his own.

A buy a good DI, not the cheap crap -- there IS a difference.........!

(Suggestions - Radial JDI, Countryman...)

Re the line out on your bass amp. On mine (and I suspect all the others) this is tapped immediately before the amplifier power stage (or whatever the correct term is) input, which means that its level is affected by both the master and input gain settings. On my GK, these have to be turned way up to get a decent level out of the line out. Mine allows you to disconnect the speaker without causing any damage, so this is what I do to avoid shaking the house to pieces.
