Magic Bag Of Sounds
i just bought an olp musicman which apparently came with ernie ball slinkies. the adg strings sound good and crisp, but the low e sounds like a total dud, almost like a double bass string. since i'm new to the bass world i don't know much about strings. i'm playing this in a funky/groovy band where its just me and drums, so i need strings with a lot of life to them. i always figured all new strings had lots of bite to them but this set is brand new and the e sounds dead as hell, so now i'm worried.

Rotosounds. I don't like them, but I'm in the minority. But they do have a lot o zing. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/cat--3351

interesting, i'll give those a try.
if i have a normal electric bass, which length should i get? i think its 21 frets.

i really prefer all steel strings to nickel or mixed (steel and nickel)

more bite.
more expensive, and i often have to order them.

I'd say the medium length.

rotosounds do everything, but theyre not great at anything really, for funky groovy stuff, i would suggest ghs boomers, as when i was the bass player in my band, in which there is a shitload of funk, thats what i used, and they worked for me. i used 45-105s. theyve a real bitey zangy zesty tangy shizly kinda wang to em.

Oh yeah! I forgot about Boomers! The have a fairly short life, but they are sweet while fresh. I'm looking a rounder sound so I use TI Jazz Rounds and Flats, and Maxima Golds on the 4-bangers. But Boomers are my next choice. They don't zing like Rotosounds, though.
