so I made a thread a while back about how i thought my EMG PJ set didn't sound as growly in my Schecter Model-T as t he stock Duncans did. Well, today I decided to open her up a bit and tinker...I always thought my pickups looked way too low, so I decided to add some foam under the already existing foam in the cavity and that boosted them nice and high..i also unplugged the P set and plguged them back in, but i realized the plug that comes from the control cavity could fit into these pickups both right side up and upsidedown...(for anyone who doesn't know, EMG's don't have wires sticking out..they have 3 metal contacts and you need a special male to female connector to plug the pickups into the control knobs).
so i flipped the way in which the thing was plugged in...had my pickups raised..and fired her up. there it was, that growl that i always had with the duncans! wtf?? did i have this plugged in upsidedown for 5 years, making it sound worse?
so i investigated...i plugged in the J pickup the opposite of what it used to be....but this time, nothing. no sound came from the J pickup. i thought that was odd, as i flipped the P pickup and still got sound. hmm?? so i plugged it the right way and set it all up
so i'm playing, and it sounds all growly on the E string like i remember, so its awesome!
now, my problem.
my E string volume is so much lower sounding than the A. when i hit 5th fret E to open A, the A is so much louder...even open E compared to open A. i tried adjusting pickup height again, but nothing. is the volume something that's sacrificed to get that growly sound?
anybody have any insight for this? i'd really like all my strings to be equal in volume and never really noticed this type of problem on my jazz or my G&L bass
