So, what are you using???.. in a bass...

I'm in a metalband so I can't use much, but at the moment I'm on EH Bigmuff and BlackFinger compressor, Thinking about more....

Weirdly, the Muff don't work very well before OR after the compressor..? ...opposed to working on by itself...

Could I sneak in a chorus??... :D

I've developed an urge for a pedalboard looking like a nuclear-plant control-room. :D

Don't use compression with distortion...distortion will naturally compress by itself.

I generally want a clean sound, so I just use a tuner pedal.

Darn it!!!

I've read that here before but didn't recall... Thanks!!

More effects???

Up till now I've also been clean-kinda bassist, but this must be a phase of some sort. :)

I got a BOSS SYB-3 Bass Synthesizer pedal, I use it with guitar though. It's cool. Forward & reverse autowah, Forward & reverse weird synth-sounding envelope follower, then a bunch of monophonic synth tone settings that are generated by the pedal itself using the instrument signal solely to determine pitch.

I like putting in on the envelope-filter settings after a tremolo pedal and hitting a note then slowly manipulating the volume know on my guitar. It gets spacey.

Chorus is a cool bass effect, softens things out a bit, but compression is probably the most useful tool, given that a) you play with your fingers alot and b) the string gauge varies hugely form E to G.

I STILL use a ART SGX Nightbass in my loop for everything. I haven't found anything newer I like better. But of course, Rack mount Bass gear is rather limited.

Which would be the downside for what you;re looking for... it's rack mount, not a pedal... but you asked what I was using.

i rock my guitar pedalboard with my bass a lot too...which is a boss delay, boss chorus, boss flanger, dunlop 535q wah, and a wh4 whammy..i might sneak in that cheap $15 danelectro Fab distortion pedal just to give some grit and a higher end, or i just use my gallien kruegers distrotion (although i hardly ever use distortion)

I play with a pick, and yes compression is due, since I play fast stuff (no force) and power strikes (excessive force) on a BEAD string-set, huge variation... Mostly I use distortion on sustained chords/notes for extra power.. (big muff through my 18"plus 2x10" sounds like a nuclear blast going on for ever!) :D

I like my sound clear and crispy on high-end, so not too soft, but I think chorus would let me keep the high-end growl and attack?..

(there's a clip of my dry sound through rec-gear, aiming to that with my rig..:
)

I play metal bass too, I use a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, a Crybaby Bass Wah, and I have a Digitech delay on it's way. I don't get a ton of use out of the Wah, and I don't expect to use the delay too often either, but when the opportunity comes up to throw them in, their worth having!

Maybe 'soft' was the wrong word...Chorus is a modulation effect, with sounds similar in timbre but never the EXACT same pitch being played at once. It's won't affect the EQ, but will give you a fatter richer sound.

A good example of what a chorused bass sounds like is the opening bass lick to G n R's "You Could Be Mine".

At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is. If not, I'm sure someone will straighten me out.

Thats exactly what it is! I was just thinking of that song earlier.

This shit would need a poll,..

But what are THE manufacturers for bass-pedals?

EH, has worked in my short experience, all I've seen from Digitech is plastic crap.. Fulltone and Analog man don't seem to have lots of pedals aimed to bass... Boss?..

I'd like the idea of sticking to one brand, but it'd have to be best hands down.

It's a crap shoot. Boss pedals are well made, but some has no reason to live. Some Digitech pedal are crap but have the sound. Hell, my Deep Impact is one of the most unreliable pedals I've used, but when its working...
I say the Moog pedals are the best built, and most consistant. But can get a little pricey, unless you're making money.

I use the bass Pod XT in my setup because it allows me to go through completely different amp, fx and eq setups at the touch of a button... point being the distortion I get out of it kicks the crap out of anything I've heard anywhere else

Since this was dug up, I might add...

I'm going to try out my VOX Tonelab with my bassgear...

Bought and used as guitargear, but seems to give me nice sounds on bass too, while recording direct.
With that, Blackfinger and ABM 500 EVO-head, I got more tubes in my signalchain than through a tube-head!! :D :D

I'm gonna get a few A/B-boxes for routing, and start noodling things together.. I've got time, since the drummer of our main band (Coprolith) broke his ankle at three dirrefent places, no rehealsals for a couple of months.... :(
