Hey there,
going to be recording a jazzy psych band soon - I've already had online banter about my fantasy of it sounding analog, which resolved some issues nicely

I have come to another query I'm going to be recording drums with overheads and one mic for the kick-drum - is it genuinely better (sonically) to 'invest' (naturally, by invest i mean, spend as little money in the most expensive way possible) in a bass specific mic at a glance say a-la the Sennheiser E902?

Also, this applies to the fact that I'm going to be recording bass through an amp only, no DI, when doing this - will it yield better results to use a one of these 'bass' mics or is it irrelevant?

here's my experience. i used SM57 on bass cab for a long time until i finally got my hands on an Audix D6, originally as a kick drum mic. then i tried it on the bass cab, this thing SMOKES the SM57 by a longshot in terms of getting that big, thick BASS sound. so yeah, i'd say a mic thats tailored to work for bass applications is going to be better for bass than using a random microphone, as common sense would indicate.

The D6 absolutely kills as an aggressive rock bass mic. The ATM25 I have is also excellent, more what-you-hear though.
