Bass guitar to Fire-wire Interface

So would you plug in the bass directly into the interface and then the bassist would use a pair of Headphones to listen to what there playing/recording? If so what cable or type of cable would I use to plug the bass guitar directly into the interface?

What interface? Does it have an instrument input? 1/4" guitar cable if it does.

Just a fire-wire interface... specifically im looking at getting the Steinberg MR816X:

Wow. A pricey one. Yes it has a Hi Z switchable input so straight in will work fine.

Ya i believe it does... if its just a standard 1/4" cable than im set... thanks man.
