Bass Guitar Kits?

Hey, DJL.

I have the same guitar, but it was built at the factory. I really like it. Real bass players who try it are usually, like, "Wow". Great sound. I used it for "Home Alone".

Truthfully, the Carvin will beat out most basses. I know people, especially at HC, are always flaming Carvin, but it really is very good. I'd say go for the Carvin bass kit, and if you order, make sure you call them if you want options not listed, most likely they are available when you order on the phone.

Thanks for the info. My main basses are a Fender American P and J bass, and my Rick 4003... I have others, but those are my favorites. I'm entertaining the thought of building a bass kit because it sounds like fun... I like nice axes but I'm no master guitar builder and that's why the bass kit needs to be easy to build while still being a nice bass. Did you get your Carven bass as a kit or was it factory built? Also, what Carven body and neck does your bass have? Thanks

My bass has the natural gloss finish and the maple neck. I was trying to go cheap, so I got no options. The kit parts are the same parts that they use for the actual same model bass. They are very precision machined, and you're just assembling, so you don't need any special skills. The biggest challenge will be the finish. The tung oil is easiest. I've seen pics on the discussion board at Carvin of bodies stained to a color, and then tung oil on top of that, and they looked great, and it's not that hard to do. Go to their bass forum and ask.

Also, you can get cool options like a 5 piece neck, etc. Standard is an ebony fingerboard. Go to GC and see what a bass with an ebony fingerboard is!

Anyway, Carvin makes cool stuff

Way kool... I like maple necks... I like maple fingerboards too.

I'll have a pro shop paint the body... cause I know I'd screw it up... lol.

Hey thanks again. :)

EDIT: PS... apl, what's the model number of your Carvin bass... B4? Thanks again.

I don't think Carvin has a maple fingerboard option for the kits, probably due to the difficulty in getting a hard finish on the maple. I looked at one before I bought an LB20 (mahogany body/neck, natural finish, with a set neck) but I have to say the LB20 is everything I need. I played Jazz basses for years and the Carvin has a similar sound but is much lighter.

Hey, lp.

I've seen a guitar kit with a birdseye maple fingerboard, no inlay neck. I'm picking up from the board that there are way more options available than are listed.
A friend of mine has a Wolfgang, and that has tung oil on the maple fingerboard.

Well, DJL, regarding the painting of the body. For an upcharge Carvin will paint the body and/or neck for you. Don't be afraid to go to www.carvin.com/bbs possibly the next best forum to this one :D
