I'm looking to upgrade my bass drum mic and I want to spend around $100. It seems to me like I'll have to spend $200 to get a decent bass drum mic but I don't need the best and I can't afford it at the time either. Any suggestions or do I have to take a dive and spend $200? Thanks!

Unless you find one used, I would save up and get the $200 ish mic.

If you can save up and get a shure beta 52 of an akg d-112, you will never have to buy another kick mic again. If you get something for $100 now, you will still find yourself spending the $200 down the road.

Save up, it'll be worth it. The mics suggested above are excellent. Another mic to check around for is the Beyer TG-X50. They've been out of production for a little while, but they still pop up an eBay.

Shure beta52 is a very nice drum mic for under $200 and will last the rest for your life!

I have always been taught not to skimp on mics or speakers A.K.A. transducers, this elimates a lot of doubt and headaches when recording or playing out.

Good luck!

got my beta 52 on ebay for $115...that was shipping and all...the deals are out there...you just may have to look around a little to find it.

I got a new beta 52 for $135 delivered from some place in WA. I got my D112 for $150 on ebay.

If you are going to spend $100 on something now I would get a SM57... at least it will still be useful once you buy your 52 or 112. I do not think a 57 is the worst sounding mic for kick.

atm25 is respected by alot of folks and its only 150.00 Plus its alot easier to place in the drum.
Audio technica.

I really like my Audix D6. It is so easy to get a great kick sound with this mic. I can even get a bucket to sound like a kick when I use this mic. Amazing.

I like the ATM25 a lot, moreso than the Beta 52. I also just won a TGX-50 on eBay so I'm anxious to get that and try it out on kick, even though I wanted it more for micing bass amps.
