I just started recording some....well, crappy, local punk band, and the bass drum was really cheap, with one of those thin-ass paper heads and a felt pedal (i know plastic usually helps with impact sound a little bit)....and I am wondering, what are some boomy sounding frequencies I could cut, and some good click frequencies i could raise to help my bass drum sound out? Any compression that might help? My mic isn't the problem because I got a Beta-91, and can usually get a great bass drum sound, but the problem here is the DRUM itself (it's already recorded, all I can do is EQ/compress/tweak the bass drum track to make it sound a little better)....

Boost 70-100 Hz at the low end, cut 300-350 Hz to help tame mud, boost around 4 to 6 kHz for click.

doesn't do too much. I guess there's not much AT the higher frequencies. His bass drum sucks ass.
Oh well. Punk is supposed to have bad production, otherwise it wouldnt be punk. LOL
