Trying to find the best techniques for recording a cheap Ibanez bass direct to my PC. The only thing I have that I could use as a preamp is a guitar POD. What frequencies can be boosted, what compression settings, etc will help my sound? And please no answers about a better bass, better gear, or mics, because this is what I'm stuck with now, just trying to make the best of it....

How about just going in through the pod on a clean or by-passed mode? Tracking without eq or compression on bass is a good solid tone you can then mess with as needed in the p/c.

one of the pod settings is a fender bassman. Use it, or the tube preamp setting. I have recorded bass this way a time or two, and it came out great.

Jake I'm not suggesting a purchase, but do you have some form of preamp for mics? Like a mixer? If so, you could experiment with that also. Just a thought.
