Bass DI box...or not?

Bring Back Transfat!
I just bought Behringer's 120w keyboard amp mainly to monitor my V-drums, and to add some presence to recordings by going direct-in with the drums and also throwing a mic at the amp.

When I plugged my bass into this 15" (5"mid and a horn) monster, it sounded great but rattled the shit outta everything in the room!

So now I'm thinking a DI box might be best for bass tracks. Any thoughts or ideas for a solid box? What about running my bass through a GNX3 guitar box for verb and other FX? Will a bass signal fry this thing?

Why is everybody always afraid of bass signals frying everything... We're a nice bunch of guys you know  :D

If you notice a signal acting strange, or you see a speaker moving to fast or hard you might turn down some volumes, but in general no harm can be done.

(that said, check out the Sherman 2 filterbank, it has a sticker attached that warns that the unit can blow op equipment! )

Any di will do in general, but there are some boxes recommended by people on this board. Work out a budget for that DI and look from there (there's $20 units as well as $2000 units)

I used to run my bass through the GNX3 on the Clean Compression preset, altered to push the gain up a bit and bring the compression down to 2:1. Worked fine. I can point you to some tracks where you can hear it if you're interested.

Play with it - you certainly won't do it any harm.

I carry an ART Levelar with me anywhere I go, in case I need to DI to something, and of course the tube compressor/limiter is nice and warm, and gets me the signal I want going into my amp as well. They are inexpensive and do a great job.

Especially for recording I like a combination of an amp and a DI. DI gives some extra definition and the amp gives you that 'boomy ' feeling.

But you can do great recordings DI'ing, just listen to K's Choice 'Not An Addict'. I spoke with the bassplayer once and he said he just DI'd it
