I have an Ampeg SVT-II head, but no cabinet to play it through. As the bassist in my band doesn't have anything more than a little practice amp, and we've been using a 1x15 Randall solid state 60 watt combo at gigs so far, we're very desirous to get a cabinet for this thing. We're looking at something in the 4x10 range, so we break neither our banks nor our backs carrying it. We would probably want to pair the head with an Ampeg cabinet as well, though if anybody would care to convince me otherwise, I'm all ears. Does anybody know whether it's worth it to fork out more dough for the SVT or Classic Ampeg cabinets as opposed to the B series cabinets?

I can't help much but my bass players SWR triad sounds incredible. It's not 4/10s though.

i'd check out the ampeg classic series 4x10's. they sound great. there are 2 different ones, one has the metal handle thing on the back (like the 8x10's have), and a bass port on the front. that ones way better by my opinion, and definatly try to grab one of them if you can. its far more road worthy, and has a much bigger bottom end (because of the bass port on the front). i've owned both, and thats just my opinion. just go try every cab you can.

Yeah, it'll probably come down to us having to make a drive to a bigger music store and trying out what we can (Iowa City doesn't have much in stock). Would anyone say it'd be worth it to pay the difference in price between the B series and the Classic?

I personally recommend the classic with the 4x10s I have played through mine for years now. The clarity of the box is awesome. It is heavy though and the casters on the bottom I have had a problem keeping them on (they fall off, but maybe it is just me.) It gets really clean low ends with the 8 omz and my 1000 watt head that I have for it.
