I am looking to put together a basic pc based studio. My main question would be: what kind of equipment would I need? I have the pc but I am unsure about the soundcard... I 've read a lot of posts about the various ones so I know I need to get a card built for recording. As of now my soundblaster live card is not holding up well  ... too many pops and hisses. What about pre amps and a mixer? I would only be recording one track at a time and using Cakewalk to multi track. I record mainly with a mic'd acoustic. Hope this was enough info on the setup I am looking for. Any ideas?

Thanks,

JBizkit

I'm using an M-Audio Delta66 with OmniStudio break-out box.

It does everything I need and I've never had a problem with it personally (although I've seen many forum postings where people have virtually thrown the thing out of the window!).

Hi, JBizkit.

I used a Tascam US122 to record the song in my signature line. I had no trouble with the USB. There are some on this board who had success, and others who couldn't get it to go.

I picked it because it had phantom power preamps for mics. It should suit your needs well.

Thanks for the posts. Does this mean that I will not need to worry about a new sound card. Any one else used the Tascam?

Pass on the 122 and get yourself an M-Audio Audophile 2496 and a mic preamp. In the end it will cost about the same as the 122 and give alot less headaches.

A low cost pre-amp that is decent is the M-Audio MobilePre. It's a two channel mixer as well, and has XLR, 1/4 and 1/8 inputs. About $145.
