First let me explain my setup,I have a Fostex 812 mixing desk into a Creative SB Live Soundcard, and recording using Cakewalk Music Creator 3.I would prefer to use a 8 track open reel to record on but cant afford to.
My problem is that when laying down a track,if I put the drums on first,I then have a problem 1) hearing the drums properly 2)am picking up a drum echo on the next track, say guitar. This using my monitors.
So basicly is there a way/interface so I can assign individual tracks from the PC to the mixer,IE track 1on PC to channel 1 mixer,or can someone explain how the hell I get the Solo function on Cakewalk to work.
I want to be able to listen to drums thro my headphones,so I can keep time and stop any drum echo/leakage to the next track.
When trying to understand either the manuel or tutorial,my mind fogs over and ...basicly I,m a luddite.I know where I am with a real device etc.
Thanks in advance,Andy.

You need an interface. The Creative card won't cut it. For example: this Presonus model
If you don't have Firewire on your computer, you can probably find a USB model that will do what you want.
1) Set your budget
2) decide how many tracks maximum you want to track/record at once

Re Interface

Thanks,Is there any way I can use my MIDI in/out on my mixer, and some how hook it to a USB interface type thingy(sorry about the terminology)Andy
