I'm an acoustic guitarist with a microphone that wants to make some simple & basic demo's without a lot of hassle. I've been looking heavily at the Boss BR532 4-track digital recorder. And then, I'm also looking at programs like Cool Edit Pro 2.0, which is about a hundred bucks cheaper than the Boss unit. But as my needs are very basic, I think the Cool Edit software would be overkill, with a much steeper learning curve than a machine like the Boss unit.

Anyone else in the same situation or been down this road? I'm really leaning towards the Boss BR532 because I don't have to sit in front of a computer screen and operate a mouse and keyboard, plus I can record anywhere I can take the unit- -it's extremely portable.

Comments or suggestions? Thanks.

First of all, software recorders are harddisk based so there is no vs thing.

Use what you think will be useful for you and the way you record. People will give their opinions but you have to use the thing.

BTW I would recommend something besides the Boss unit. It is cheap in every sense of the word.
