Hi all,

I'm new to the world of digital recording. I have song data on a Fostex VF-80 and need to get it to my PC. I have connected the two via SPDIF and have the Audacity program on the PC. My question is ... what next?

Is it supposed to be a simple file transfer - like a USB connection? The PC doesn't seem to "detect" the recorder when I connect them.

Or do I record the song data in real time in Audacity via the SPFIF link? Does that entail simply hitting Play on the recorder and and Record in Audacity? Audacity doesn't seem to "hear" the 8-track when I do that.

I would greatly appreciate some help on this, as I'm feeling lost.

Many thanks,

m@

SPDIF is not like USB. Your soundcard will not automatically detect it. You'll have to set the input on your soundcard to record SPDIF and record it in real time. If your Fostex has the CD drive then you should be able to save the tracks on a CD and copy those to your computer.
