Hi,

I'm really new into music production, I was reading and reading and I'm kinda stuck in the basic parts

I own a M-Audio Fastrack, when I'm recording the audio, I open to mono channels, I pan one to the left and the other to the right to get an stereo signal.

Then I send them to an aux track.

I'm doing the right thing? its this a good technique?

I'm talking to record vocals.

as long as remember fast track has only one input (mono) and source (mic) is also mono, then why do you think you need stereo after all? just record to one mono track and keep the panning center.
if you want thicker-wider vocals just use chorus effect or record the same thing twice ;)

To record true stereo, you'd need two mics plugged in and recording the same thing at the same time. I'm guessing that's not what you're trying to achieve. As was suggested, you can get a "doubled" sound by adding chorus to a single track or by recording two separate tracks of the same part. By panning the two tracks (partially or fully), you are creating a stereo effect. Chorus was actually invented for that purpose.

You would only need an aux track if you are adding reverb or some other kind of effect to the source track--otherwise it's unnecessary.
