Hi,

I'm thinking of connecting my band's vocals, acoustic, electric (through effects) and bass guitars to my mixer - with no amps, just a direct connection. I'm also planning on taking my edrums to my mixer, directly. Then I would use a headphone amp (like the Behringer AMP800) to split the audio from the "Phones" jack from my mixer - and all of us would wear headphones.

Will this work and allow us to practice almost silently? Keep in mind, no amps are involved.

I can't see why it wouldn't work. Just bear in mind that the direct sound from the guitars may not sound as good without the benefit of the speakers or cabinets. But if it's just for practice, then it probably won't matter so much. I'm not sure of the specifics of yor setup obviously, but you may well need to preamp the signals on the way in. Does your mixer have preamps?

Oh...and the acoustic guitar obviously wont be any quieter than it is normally. But that really goes without saying.

Yes, this is how my band currently practices, v-drums and all. Works great. Playing out, we use acoustic drums and regular amps, It'd be pretty funny to give the sound guy a stereo line out, but he should have to work a little... ;)

Prolly the only pres you'll need is for the vocal mics. Bass/guitar amps line out is already juiced up to line level, as are the v-drums. Sticks hitting v-drums can get kinda loud, not in the same ballpark as a-drums, but annoying for someone in the next room..
