Okay, I'm gonna show my true ignorance when it comes to recording equipment. My wife bought me a Tascam 788 digital recorder (very cool ) and a Peavey RQ2310 mixer to go along with it.

My 788 is an 8-channel recorder and I can't figure out how to (which jacks) send my instruments (drums/guitars) to the recorder. I know I can use the Monitor outputs but thats only 2 channels, which defeats the purpose of the 8-channel mixer. Obviously, I'm missing something conceptually here.

Thanks!
Dale

the 788 is a combo mixer/recorder so a mixer is not needed...now, with that said, if the preamps of the Peavey sound better you can go thru it into the 788, but from your description you are limited to 2 tracks

It appears that the Peavey has Channel Inserts on Channels 1-4. These can be used to send individual channels to other devices.

You'll need to read the manual to see how to connect these.

cool..it seems u can record to 6 tracks of the 788 simultaneously, so hook those 4 inserts to 4 channels of the 788 that dont have mic preamps

Thanks guys for the info about the channel inserts, was not aware of that. According to the manual, I need to insert the cable only to the "first" click to use as a send? Or should I insert all the way and pull out one click? Sorry for such basic questions.

Dale
