Hey Guys,

I'm just now hoping on the bandwagon and gettin synced up and plugged into the world of MIDI. I have the Triton which works fine as a controller for the recently bought Pro-52 (and soon Novation A station rack) soft synth and other general applications as well. However, I've been wanting to jam out with my bandmates and am looking to get a basic MIDI controller and was wondering if you guys thought it would be worhth it to spend an extra 100 bucks or so and get one like the Evolution mk149 or jsut go with the more basic Roland PC-200 MK-II, or some other controller for that matter. I like being able to not have to get up and use the mouse to change programs on say a soft synth but don't really require an LED screen telling me the # of said program. It would be cool to have some knobs right there to tweak and/or some mod wheels but those aren't a must. Again, I'm pretty new to MIDI and so thorough explanations/ideas are truly appreciated.

Oh and the # of keys isn't a huge issue, around 49 is perfectly acceptable, if it's range is movable, of course.

You should be able to send program changes on the Triton.

yea.. but the triton don't have knobs.. yea.. an evolution controller would prolly be a good idea.. or a miditech midi control.. you could also just use the triton keyboard and buy a doepfer pocket dial of course..

Oxy 8? Not!

That thing has only what, 25 keys? Who could seriously "jam out" with that dinky thing?

Are you looking more for something with buttons and knobs? I cant think of the models but there are better midi/mixer/control surfaces that you could use with your Triton.

In response Tex, I gotta first say I absolutely LOVE knobs, that aside I am just looking for another physical board so that one of my bandmates can play the Triton or a soft synth, and I can "jam" with him, via a seperate set of keys, on our new Astation or a soft synth. Those are some good ideas though guys and it's looking like the Evolution is the frontrunner, the oxygen 8 has just a bit too few keys, love the knobs though. Thanks again guys!

Krakit, once I followed Chriss' link it became blatantly obvious to me that the one I needed was the Evolution PRO 49C USB, certainly sufficient amount of keys, and all those knobs. I'm wondering though why is teh Miditech Controller so much more expensive? Seems crazy being that both seem to have the exact same capabilities, and IMO the Evolution even looks cooler. Thanks again!

the Miditech also have some knobs that only spits out 5 bit instead of 7.. so you get 32 values instead of 128.. a bit annoying.. that's y it's not as good as the evolution.. still cost more..
