Basic Equipment for a Home Recording Studio using an iMac

Hello. My brother and I have been putting some music together and then recording in a studio. We have been recording at home with just a usb mic and an iMac before the studio, but the recording is obviously not quality. I was wondering what equipment would be best to setup a home studio to simply record and edit hip hop vocals while still using the iMac. The studio time is just becoming too expensive at this stage. Please help!!
