Does anyone around have any idea how to hook up barrier-strip connections? I've got an old Altec 1612a Preamp/Limiter and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how to get signal out of it....

And where on earth can i find a head demagnetiser?????

are you running balanced or unbalanced and whats going in and wheres it going to? Let me know

Gag, the input transformer is for mic level signals (and is an XLR connection) and I'm trying to run a balanced output from the barrier strips to my board. Do I need any special connectors or should I just strip a cable and start poking around (gulp)?

hey camus this is me is that you? lol anyways, i,m assuming your board is xlr inputs . Your barrier strips have markings no? If thats the case then take a mic cable, . take the one end off thats not going to your board now strip it down about 3/4 inch there should be three leads now strip these individual leads down to bare wire you need enough bare wire to wrap a little bit around the little barrier strip screws , don,t forget to unloosen those screws first now tighten them up with the wire of course being underneath. OH... I forgot , you need to identify what each bare wire is to do this I would take apart the old jack you just cut off and see what colours the leftover cable that are still attached are and see what pin number they are sodered to. Pin one should be shield, pin two should be hot( positive with a plus sign +)and pin three should be you guessed it a negative sign (-). The connecter plug you cut off should have tiny little numbers beside each pin, now attach the stripped leads to the proper barrier screws .. Whew I dont type this much and I bet someone could have explained it alot shorter!! Lol . Oh yeah make sure no tiny pieces of wire under those barrier screws is sticking out do it clean and let me know, Cheers gag
