What do ya say? QSC, Mackie, Carvin, Haffler, Crown, Peavey.
Looking for at least 200W per channel at 4ohms but could go up to 400W per channel. It must be pretty clean.

WHo is the king of cheap quality amps?

I would give ya my car, my wife,... but never my Crown!!!
I've had my 1200 for over 15 years and it just keeps on sounding better all the time.
It's not in the "cheap" category, but man! It's the best I've ever had.

I'm hooked on Mackie FR1400i power amps. I had used cheap Peaveys and problematic QSC amps then I tried out 1 Mackie. I now use them for my personal PA (FOH and Monitors) as well as for my studio amp. They are very clean and produce a lot of sound. And they are very very tough. Never had a shutdown or problem, even playing 110 degree high humidity outdoor shows.

I sure don't want a problematic amp! I right now have two peaveys. A DECA/424 and a CS800X. The 800 is a little noisy at high volumes, The deca is a great amp I think. But no matter that you think I have pushe both amps to the top for hours at a time over and over, and have never had a problem with the amps or clipping and blowing a speaker. That being said I know there are better. Crown is pretty much the undisputed king of amps (don't know if I want to afford one). I have never been around QSC amps before so any input on them is good.

Thanks

Being old and decrepit, one of my main considerations in a power amp is size and weight. I started years ago with Carvers, then moved on to Stewarts which i liked better. These days I'm using the QSC PLX series, which is the best yet of what I've tried.

I know there are amps that are more rugged, and others that may sound better - but the QSC PLX seems to be the best combination of build quality, size and weight, sound, and value. If were throwing these things on and off of sound trucks 7 days a week, I'd spring for the more durable Powerlite series, but as a weekend warrior, my PLX's in their SKB cases are a breeze to lift and load, and haven't crapped out on me yet.

Ya littledog every time one of those "let me help" types comes around I always make sure they get the amp rack. Even in a skb case my amps will send you to the doctor. It's amazing how heavey amps are.

Has anyone had any exp.. with the mosfett amps out there today? You don't see very many in adds. I guess if they where the best thing going the others would go away. Hell they've been oout for what? 15 years?
