Band Name Legalities

I think this is the right spot for this.

So there are few bands out there that share our name, and we would like to register ours. As far as we know, no other band has the name registered, however there are several companies that do have the same name. Will that be an issue? I dont want to get a letter from some interior design company becuase we are selling music online with their name. Not too sure how much different Canadian laws on this are from American, but I imagine it can't be that much different. So the real question is this: Can we register our band name, even though companies exist with the same name and are in completely different industries?

If you don't want to get hollow but loud threats, do NOT use the word "Monster" in your band's name. The (you know who) cable company probably makes more money from threatening lawsuits, than from their way-overpriced cables...
