I think there's only one major Piano VSTi out there right now

Check out mdaPiano. Freebie, very authentic small piano sound. Adjustable parameters, too. I like it better than the sampletank freebie.

Yea, mdaPiano is very nice. mda, sampletank and a couple of decent soundfonts should give you most of the piano sounds you will need.
