Balanced or Unbalanced?

I just ordered a pair of the Behringer Truth B2031A and I'm trying to figure out what cables to buy to hook the speakers up to my computer's sound card (Audigy). The sound card has a 1/8" stereo output. The B2031A has a balanced 1/4" TRS input.

I think I can do it with a Y cable: a 1/8" male into two 1/4" TRS females.

Here's my question: Do I use balanced or unbalanced patch cables from the Y adapter to the monitors? I was going to use balanced, but then I read somewhere that the 1/8" sound card output is not balanced - and therefore I shouldn't use balanced patch cables. If I use unbalanced patch cables, should I instead use the following Y cable?

I'm really new to this and have no idea what I'm doing. I have to think that tons of people are hooking up active monitors to regular sound cards, like I'm trying to do.

Am I even close? Help!

Thanks

Your soundcard's output isn't balanced, so use unbalanced cables, and look to upgrade your soundcard ASAP.

Basically, what you will be doing is running an unbalanced left and right signal from the stereo 1/8" output to your monitors. So you need to be sure that when you say "y" cable to the salesperson at the store that they understand that. Because a "y" cable is often just a splitter cable, and that's not what you want.

What you want is a stereo 1/8" to Left/Right 1/4" cable. It will be unbalanced.

And yes, upgrade your soundcard ASAP!
