Balanced cables

I'm not sure if this is the place for this question, but i figured I might get an answer here.

so anyways I was gonna hook a pre up to my line input on my presonus firepod.
Last time I did this I borrowed a pre from a friend he had an xlr female to stereojack (balanced , or so I think).

So I'm gonna hook up mine and I've got the same cable except the jack is mono.
Is this bad or does it not matter.
I know it can matter in other cases but I dont see the big issue here?

so should I buy a new cable?

If it's XLR to 1/4" it is just a mono balanced 1/4" TRS cable end. I believe your firepod has balanced ins on channels 3-8 so that cable should be fine.

Actually, IIRC, the FIREPOD has balanced ins on all eight channels, but the first two are on the back.
