balanced A/C power

I just purchased a 200 dollars monster power conditioner which did not eliminate low hums and hisses. Recently i have been doing more and more research on ac noise and a lot of places suggest
using balanced power will get rid of all hums ,hisses , etc. I was wondering if
any one had a balanced ac power conditioner and how effective it actually is in reducing unwanted noise(is it worth spending 1500-2000 bucks).

What gear do you have that is noisy? That may be the easier and cheaper way to address the problem.
 
If your power was already pretty quiet, you may not notice any improvement at all by balancing it. Unbalanced power is only one possibility among many for what is causing electronic noise in your studio. In some cases it can help, but it is not a magic bullet that fixes everything.
 
I use balanced power and it does help, but it won't magically eliminate all noises. Some it reduces more than others. Although overall I do believe it's a good idea.

That Monster unit you bought is really just a fancy power strip with some filtering, not a power conditioner.

How about trying an Iso Transformer?

Also did you trying turning lights off and see if that helps? Are you using any TS or RCA cables you can switch out with XLR or TRS?

BTW, hiss is usually not affected one way or the other by power conditioning or lack there of. Hiss is generated by all active circuits to some extent, and is amplified by each successive gain stage. Problems with hiss usually result from improper gain staging, where one gain stage is doing too much work. A classic example is if you have a mixer channel with the gain or trim up high and the channel fader up high, and then the main buss fader or power amp volume low to compensate for it. Proper gain staging will eliminate excessive hiss on all but the cheapest of todays recording equipment.

Oh, I made the assumption that you're not talking about tape hiss. ;)
