I baked my first two tapes today
zonal 675 and an EMI ? (both e buys fortunately i was advised to buy at an empty nab price and got them for a few quid)
the zonal eventually made the machine cut out and blew a fuse on the power supply. (scraped it, its not worth the hasstle)
and the emi is such a low grade tape compared to the high out put qauntegy 478 i have, it's hardly worth taping to except some personal hifi playback stuff.

You live and learn.

I think i'll save some pennys again and try out some rmg lpr 35 despite the high cost in the uk.
 
How much EMI stuff do you have? I might be interested in a bit as it's good for tape echoes like the Copicat.

EDIT: Though I don't believe it was ever susceptible to stick-shed syndrome...
 
If it's used tape, there's no way to know whether it is even on the original reel. If the tape isn't back coated (usually black on the outside, brownish on the head side) it is probably not sticky, but old acetate tape can suffer from "loss of lubricant" or other issues that cause oxide to shed off. Also, I've had massive oxide shedding from 641 that maybe slightly wider than the guides on my MX5050.

How much does LPR-35 run in the UK? It's US$23.50 for a small reel here (plus shipping) Looks like Splicit will ship worldwide for an additional US$12.95. (Flat rate box, which should hold at least two reels, and maybe four, I don't off the top know the exact dimensions. So US$59.95 for two reels shipped to the UK.

You can get a 3600' reel for £19, or a pancake for £16, though that probably excludes VAT.
If his machine is an R8 it's going to be a nuisance spooling it onto 7" reels, but it'd still be worth it.

i've never come across carousel before
i'll be spooling on to 10.5" nabs. now i have some empty ones.
Pm me i have a full nab of what is supposed to be emi.
Never quite sure with ebuys though i'm sure it would do for an echo loop.
