When playing back audio in cubase VST32 it sounds as if it is 8 bit audio.
It hisses crackles and generally sounds bad, but if I play the same file in Wave Lab its as clear as a bell.

I looked at the prefs in Wave Lab and set cubases Audio prefs the same i.e. Buffers sample rate. At first I thought it was the recording in cubase that was bad but when using Wave lab as my external editor it play fine?

Heres what Im using:

PII 333 over clocked to 416mhz
192 meg
6.4 Gig HD
AWE64 sound card
Matrox G200 graphics

Maybe

This is just a stab in the dark....
It sounds like it could be Buffer settings and it probably is but make sure

- you have the most updated drivers for your soundcard
- you defrag you hard disk often.... (as often as you can stand it)
- that you have set your vcache to 15-25% of you total physical memory (installation of VST should do this for you but i have skipped the process on accident b4.. so check)

I also wonder if overclocking your processor that much has an effect on VST?? just some thoughts.

Hmmm...is the noise and cracking from a microphone input or instr. input? Also, the AWE 64 is not full duplex. I get terrible results in VST with a cheap microphone and low signal-to-noise ratio.

i'm going to guess that it's VST32 that's the problem. As far as I'm concerned it's a joke...nothing but problems...i had to go back to V3.7
