Hello.
I've been trying to get some decent recordings lately.
A few months ago, I mixed a tune that sounded awesome.
I was thrilled with it through my monitors, in my car, and on my boombox.
A few days ago I heard it through some event 20/20s...
Horrible.
Not the levels or the panning, but the reverb on the tracks was disgusting.
It was drowned in reverb and I couldn't tell.
Is that because of the room where I'm mixing, or my monitors?
I'm mixing in a bedroom.. The bedroom I sleep in, so theres a lot of stuff in here.
The room is not square. The ceiling is slanted down and made of fiberglass tiles.
The floor is made out of particleboard tiles that have rubber underneath them. They were designed to keep the room warm. I have rug covering the floor where I mix and where I track.
My walls are made out of fuzzy plywood. I"m not sure what its called. Theres grooves in it so that each piece fits together.
I took some pictures of the room and put them up at www.lukemacneil.com/studiopics.html
I don't know if I need to treat the room, or get new monitors. Those are my only options as I don't have another room.
I drew out a diagram in paint, but now I can't find it.. I'll start drawing it again. If I can fix this room up, or get the right monitors, I would be a happy kid. I don't want to send what I think is an awesome mix to a mastering house and then find out it sucks.
Thanks for your advice.
