I just got a few items to start my home studio, and I bought the UX2, CTK6000 and the Behringer TRUTH B1030A's.

I plugged everything up, and turned on everything and put all volumes on mute, then I turned the B1030a's on and they make a crackle/crunch when they start(they do this everytime) and before I started any music or turned the volume off mute i could hear the speakers making this sound which is like having the volume at max with no music

I did some checking and its not the cables, the ux2, or anything. I even tried just pluggin them into the wall, and turning them on, and they still make the same noise!

My question is, Do all studio monitors do this? I didn't notice this sound when I was at guitar center, but I plan to go tomorrow and see if the others do it?

I asked behringer this, and they said I should return them or get warranty work, so BHphoto(dealer) sent me a Pre-Paid label, which I can do tomorrow also!

If i only have around $200 should I get the same B1030A's or something like the Maudio Bx5a's for 240$ or should I just save up and get the KRK RP5G2's??

I've used the M-Audio BX5s for a long time, and they do fine, I'm used to them so I can actually get a fair sounding mix with 'em, I have large Polks as my main set, but don't use 'em much anymore, the BXs are just fine for what I do, and they're not noisey at all.
Hope that's helpful.
Good luck.

No it is not natural for studio monitors to hiss or hum with no sound coming through them, or even with sound for that matter (unless its coming from the tracks).

As far as new monitors go, heard but good things about KRK's. I think you'd want to save up for the 6's at least but thats my opinion. I use a cheaper pair of Fostex PM0.4 and for the price (150 new) they seem to work well, but i really do want some KRK 6's or 8's.

Just let me clarify:

When you tried "just plugging them into the wall", you had nothing else plugged into them, right? And they still made a noise?

Was this a start up noise, or a start up then continuous noise?

Well on start up, it does a scratch to pop sound, then it goes quiet, and then after 3-4 seconds you can hear a white noise like I have the volume all the way up with nothing playing.

I have read about several people having bad speakers, but then others say this is normal, but I am still un-shure, I have a pre-paid label, so I might just return it to be safe!

I actually got a shitty pair to start with, the logo on one them is half way peeled off, and there is glue around the middle circle of the subwoofer from when they built it! So the craftsmen who made this is an asshole, and I asked the company if the would just let me pay more and get the KRK RP5G2's for 290$ or the Bx5a's for 240$!

Not normal! if you don't have any load on the speakers and they are producing this noise then it is unacceptable. Send them back...

Well I muted my computer all lines on my computer, and put my output volume on 0 on the interface, but my cheap 2.1 speakers would mute when muted. I just expected alot more for "studio" monitors. I hope the B1030A's stay out of stock just in case they won't let me upgrade.

I know most speakers will have a little white noise but thats when you have the volume up not on mute. But if you heard the sound they make they start, they make a sound like the speaker has blown, but they work just not as good as I expected, even for behringer's low standards this is low.

Not normal. Exchange them for a new pair.

Quality control is spotty, but I think the Truth series monitors are a pretty good value all around.

Besides for everything I said, when the volume is up and cranking music, It is like I never heard that song before. I am not an expert but the settings I put it at made them sound really nice, but any low volume will disturbed by the sshh sound!
But If I can buy a different pair, should I get the KRK RP5G2's or Bx5a's?
