i just got a new pro tools le(6.1) system and i have 2 80 gb hard drives that are partitoned. my question is i dont know what partitions belong to "drive 1" and what ones belong to"drive 2".
so if i record a session on a drive and back it up i have no way of knowing if the backup session is on the opposate drive or not. i want to record all audio on one drive and back up to the 2nd drive. that way if one drive goes down i have back-ups on the second drive. how do know what partitons belong to what drive?

start the computer in dos mode and type FDISK at the command prompt. From there you'll be able to see what partition letters are on disk 1 and disk 2

what is dos mode and how do i do that? can you give me a step-by step??im totally new to computers. thanks!!

can anyone help me? i need to back up my sessions and i dont know if im just putting the back up copies on the same drive or not.

get a windows 98 or 95 boot floppy disk, you can start in dos mode that way

also if you have windows 2000 or XP you can go into control panel then administrative tools and then go to computer management and in there go to disk management and that should tell you everything you need to know, at bottom half of screen it will have each individual disk listed, and then show what partitions and drive letters are on it.

Hope that helps
Brad

Did you use a program to partiton them? It would tell you.
