Backing Track Effects

Hi, I'm currently mixing backing tracks for my band to play live to. We don't have a drummer, and use Battery instead to program everything, with a stereo out going to the mixing desk (Left channel - drums, right channel - anything else).

Basically, just wondering what the standard approach to applying effects to backing tracks is. I'm compressing and EQing the individual sounds, but would it be a good idea to stick a multiband compressor or something over the whole drum track to beef it up. Having never worked as a live sound guy, I dont know what will p*ss them off and what they like.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated, if you want to have a listen to a little taster to give you an idea of genre etc, have a peek at myspace.com/retrochamps

thanks! H
