Special thanks to Bassman for playing bass on this tune.

I still don't have a name for it.

Wow.... what a cool bass line!!!! ... ;-) Sounds real good.. did run the bass track through anything? or did you just paste it in. kind of sounded like a chorus put on it..

Very nice song. Good guitars (could be a tad lower), good bass (could come up a bit in my ears). The drums is what bothers me. Snare sounds very strange, and the drums could use some variation.. Singing is very good. Maybe some some backing vocals could add some spice. Nice break at ~2:30 with a nice solo. Drums sounds very odd though.

Very promising song with god sound. Keep up the good work.

Mrlip.... Don't you have an alternative Drum track? ... Might be interesting to hear it with it.......

Cool tune...sort of Robert Plant sounding.

Is that a POD I hear?

The bass REALLY needs to come up...I can barely hear it through small headphones.

The change is into psuedo-odd-time is a little awkward...though you come out of it VERY nicely.

Nice work man!

What I heard was David Bowie; in the tune. In your voice. Nice job!
700 million dollars can't be too far wrong... :)
And the bassline was a nice touch. Came out clear on my monitors.
Maybe it was my imagination but I sensed that either you were early or that snare hit was occasionally late. Slack- I wouldn't call that change awkward at all. Simply adding one extra beat before coming back from the break (also in 4/4). Technically 5/4 for one measure.

Nobody likes my drums :(
I was going for a repetitious pseudo-disco kind of thing.

But if you guys insist I'll go in search of another snare.

Bassman: I might be emailing you sometime soon ;)
I put a compressor and a EQ on the bass track that's all, no chorus. I think the mp3 sounds a little wishy-washy though. Maybe that's it.

Slack: Yeah it's a POD... sorry... I know how you feel about those things... heh

We need more calaborations here, it's a great song guys! Any advice has been posted so.......

Dude, I exclusively use a POD because I don't have anything better...so I don't hate them *that* much :)

You could try my Drum track, and the bass track that goes with it. I know it was more straight forward rock, But I would really like to hear it..,Even if you don't keep it in your final mix of the song... And I would be interested in hearing comments from the people who didnt like the original drum track. ...some critisism to hone my drumming skills....

As far a collaberating, It is really cool, I did a drum track for this countryish tune from Octaruss... still waiting on the final mix for that...

Mrlippp,

wasuuuuuup. I listened to it earlier and I was like wow.
SO how many takes did it take to get that Awesome vocal on tape.

I also like the bass. It sounded kinda right, albeit low.

what does your vocal channel look like. that was a nice space you created with the reverb

peace

This sucks... iDrive won't let me D/L it (some strange error). I'd love to give it a listen, do you have another place to store the MP3?

CyanJaguar: Actually, I did that in only 1 or 2 takes. I've got an EQ, multi-tap delay, and reverb on it -- all DirectX plugins. The EQ and delay are the ones in the Waves bundle, and my reverb is Timeworks.

Bassman: Trying to out drum me? ;)

I'm very reluctant to change the drums though. I mean, I wouldn't mind having better sounds/samples but I really want to keep the beat simple until the solo part -- or at least during the beginning of the song. Maybe I'll comprimise, simple beginning, more complex towards end?

We'll see.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I couldn't out drum a monkey.....lol... it is amazing what you can do to a midi file in cakewalk to make you sound good....

My take on simple drum parts is that if it is so repetitive it comes off as drum machine sounding, good samples or not. A real drummer may play the same beat through out the song, but I think you'd find it hard to find one that would play it without any type of fills or at least changing it around just a little. That is what gives it a "live" feel.

Now that could be good or bad, just depends on the tune. It would seem to me, that your song is more in a category that would call for a "live" drum feel. But this is only my opinion and it is your song.

If you want, send me the Midi file of your drum part, and Ill run my samples through it, for some better sounds, and maybe, if you want, Ill embellish it a little, but keep the same feel, or I can leave it alone. let me know..

Oh I may need your guitar expertise, I am "producing" some songs for this girl singer/songwriter and am struggling with some of the guitar stuff...

Bassman: would you like to donate some samples?
Slack: I'm a cheapskate like you, got any good free snares?

Well, it's also not so much that I'm cheap, but just living in Asia it makes it very difficult to get my hands on certain things, and I can't get anything shipped to me without getting a huge tax slapped on it.

I've been going thru all my soundfonts looking for a decent snare but I can't seem to find the sound I'm looking for.

If anyone's interested in donating some samples... ;)

Bassman: I'm gonna try your drum track, but for mixing and editing purposes I don't really want to have the whole drum set on one track. Argh...

Are you happy with your sonic implants sound fonts? Do you feel they were worth the money you spent?

Shit maybe I'm going to have to start spending some money...

Lip..... yes, for the 20 bucks it cost me for the soundfont, it is well worth the money. Oh and it is downloadable from their web site. No shipping costs to worry about.
