B mulichannel mic pre

Hey guys, I'm looking at saving for a multi-channel mic pre to mic up my drums with. As of right now I'm using at2020's for overhangs, sm57's/smason q-toms on the toms/snare, at2021 on the hihat, audix d6 on kick and depending on the set up i throw a sennheiser e609 on the floor tom.

What is a good "budget" multi-channel pre that will accomodate up to 8 channels (in/out) to my mixer. I want it to shwo an obvious change. I'd like it to have color.

What is your current mixer? Why not look at a mixer with 8+ channels? If you're spending the money, you might be well served with the additional routing and flexibility that a mixer offers.

If its gotta be a pre, though, there are units by PreSonus, Mackie, and M-Audio that people seem to like. I've never used any of them personally.
