I play keys and have gotten into a style more associated with guitar - I have been into Leslie West (of Mountain). Every time I reached for the pitch bend wheel on my synth my left hand had to stop playing so the bottom dropped out.
I ended up making this setup with a card from Doepfer:

The idea came from watching steel players.
There's provisions for 3 more inputs so I might add a panic button, and pedals to control CC #071 and CC #074, resonance and cutoff frequency.
I got it hooked up so that when I play normally the pitch bend is 3 frets in either direction, and with MidiPipe, when I hold down the sustain pedal, the pitch bend goes to 2 octaves either way (!) which is Floyd Rose on steroids.
It was a fun project but I keep busting those crap R.S. pots...
