The Way It Moves
Thoughts and opinions? I have been reading about them a lot and they sound nice. I am going to be going to GC in the next couple weeks and check one out as long as they have one.

I liked the head through the Peavey cab that it was hooked to when I played it, but the combo really paled in comparison. In fact, I almost didn't try the head after playing the combo first.

i had a guy in my studio with a b-52 half stack,
I thought it would be just a cheap-o amp...
but the tones he got out of it blew me away!
It sounded great, great live, records really well too.
his was stock with the cheap-o tubes in it too.

I'll have to admit the Triple Rec knock off B52 sounds pretty good. I've worked with and own Mesa stuff and the B52 was pretty damn close to capturing that Rectifier sound. Not a bad sounding amp at all. The only thing I worry about is the Quality of the build. I worked at Guitar Center for 2 weeks and saw three B52's come back in that time.

I've had a B-52 AT212 for just over a year now. I too was concerned about the build quality, but was convinced by the 5 year warranty--the company seems out to prove itself. I've had no problems at all. Haven't travelled with it much--mostly in the studio.

As far as sound: I'm still not done finding sounds I like from this thing. The clean is great, and the dirty & heavy sounds are endless--I can dial in any variety I can think of. (The contour & bottom controls help there.)

For recording, I really like the "big" sound you get from more volume, less gain. But this thing is so loud its hard to push the tubes in the power section--so I got a Weber attenuator from Eurotubes. Cranking the amp way up then bringing the volume back down with the attenuator makes for a killer sound.

I also updgraded the tubes with a set from Eurotubes while I was there--that was worth it to me as well.
