Yo Salty One:
If it isn't a bad cable, it might be how you have your signal moving into the unit, like PRE fader or POST fader? [this is just a guess as I have the 2816 also and I'm learning the box.
Then, there are all of the "st" little boxes that MUST be on?
Have you made the recording connection via "quick record" and forgotten to push the "execute button?"
Check your effects screen and make sure the L/R flags are in place according to the "manual" and if they are not as they should be, use the jog wheel to correct them.
This is a complex box and if you miss one setting it won't perform as it should. But, the results are outstanding.
I've done a couple of projects for a friend and take OLD tape recordings made on my Tascam 488. I put the cut into the 2816 and remastered it on tape via the analog stereo outs to new tape.
The results were out of sight -- very good sound. I haven't burned a CDR yet but will very soon.
The analog stereo RCA outs do a great job and it's quick.
Hope this helps you.

Anything you discover about the 2816 I'd appreciate input.
Thanks.
