AW16G

Hello to all current and future Yamaha AW16G owners! Please check out http://www.aw16g.com. I'm beta testing my forum right now. Let me know if you can't get to it or if you run into any problems. Also, read the post I made under "Comments, Suggestions, etc".

Thanks

Wonderful, Dinsdale! The site looks great! You're my new hero.
One suggestion for a sub-topic: HELPFUL TIPS--or some such category that allows folks to share those surprising personal discoveries that might help others.

I'm looking forward to the official launch and to my original member status. Once all is set, let's be sure to publicize the site with Yamaha and others--I'll even give Ed Blackmore (at Yamaha) a personal call about it. The more 16G users, the merrier.

Thanks for all your obvious effort, Dinsdale.

J.

Thanks for the compliment :).

The Helpful Tips thing is something I'm trying with the Getting Started section...although I think now I'll make a seperate section. The Getting Started is currently for people to post problems they ran into initially, and the steps they took to fix it. Once enough posts are made, I'll format everything into a nice Getting Started FAQ. I'll make a seperate Helpful Tips Section though as well that's just for general tips and tricks.

Thanks for the idea...and that would be awesome if you mentioned it to Yamaha! I should have the basic layout of the site done soon so I can start making some tutorials and things.

Dinsdale,

I am having problems trying to post at your AW16G site. Initially, all was traveling well, but now I am not allowed to post. I keep getting the "you cannot post so soon after your last post. Wait a while and try again". I have waited much longer than the suggested 6-hr minimum waiting period, but still cannot post. Do you have any idea what might be the problem?

Blessings,

Nate.

Yeah, I knew there was one more person that had the problem....I had the same problem, as long as one other person because when I installed the forum on my server, the time was wrong. When I updated it, it wouldn't let anyone that was signed up already post. Unfortunately, the only fix is to remove your account and then you had to reregister. I'll go ahead and do that now, and then just signup with the same info again.

Sorry for the trouble.

Dinsdale,

No problem, buddy. It is a really great thing that you have undertaken, and put together. I just wanted to make certain that I could continue to be an active player (poster) in the forum.

Blessings,

Nate.

Dinsdale,

Thanks for setting up the Yamaha AW16G site. I registered today but won't have to cash to obtain one untill February.

Two questions;

Your user name always reminds me a Monty Python animated cartoon character of a large hedgehog that terrorized a city picking up cars, people and busses etc saying either "Dinsdale?" or "Doonsdale?" as if searching for someone.

Any relation to your screen name?

Question 2 for any one experienced with the AW16G;

I just picked up a new Mackie 1404 VLZ PRO at Mars closeout for $349 before I found out I would be getting a $1K (pretax)referral bonus and determined I would be able to swing an AW16G

So far I have in preamps 1 DMP3, 1 Joe Meek VCQ6 and an ART TubePac that I was using to "warm up" my SansAmp Bass Driver.

My question is will the Mackie 1404 still be of much use still if I will be only recording one track or two at a time for now? Or will I be better off just going straight to the AW16G?

I am not planning on doing any bands or enembles for now just myself and one or two other guitar players and vocalists. I only have 4 mics and some bass and guitar DI gear. No live drum sets in my near future unless I go portable somewhere.

The reason I am asking now is I just yanked my patchbay for a balanced one and have not reconnected anything yet.....I don't plan on doing much recording untill I can get the DAW and dump the cassette 4 track!

So I am trying to decide how to rewire my patchbay for a newly acquired Mixer (if needed) and the soon to be acquired DAW.

I looked in the "Set up" section at the new user group but no one mentioned using a mixer.

I get so little time to record right now I don't want to spend it all
trying to find the most effective "standard" routing set up. I don't mind spending some time on getting the signal chain, mic placement and gain staging right.

Yep, my name comes from the Piranha Brothers sketch...one of my favorites. The brothers were Dinsdale and Doug Piranha, and the hedgehog you're thinking of is Spiny Norman, who only Dinsdale saw, and who would range in size from a few feet to a few hundred meters depending on how depressed Dinsdale was...heh...crazy stuff. I like the name though.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Mackie. I'm just starting out with this stuff.

Dinsdale,

While I am familiar with the Monty Python spoof I have not heard about the Pirhana Brothers....

Could you let me know a little more about them?

Sounds very funny

:D

I'd dump the mixer..

Unless you need it for some other reason. I'm selling off my
peavey RQ3014 analog mixer on ebay (similar to a mackie) cause I don't really need it anymore.
I decided I'd rather not have any extra analog noise in the signal path (even tho the peavey is extremely quiet!).
With the AW, you have 2 mic inputs, and 6 1/4 inch line
inputs, which ought to be enough for your own recording..
I'll be a little short on inputs if my pals come over for a jam,
but I'd rather buy a nice Rode NT1 than keep a mixer around
for the occasional jam..

problem at AW16G.com.

Dinsdale,

I am experiencing another problem, at your 16G Forum, and hope that you can help with a work-around. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts at signing on, before I see that I am indeed recognized. But - almost always - I get kicked back out to the sign-in screen whenever I try to post a message. At those times, I can immediately sign back on - but will get kicked out again upon each try at posting. Any ideas?

Blessings,

Nate.

Hey NLAlston, sorry just saw this post. I'm gonna email you about the problem you're having.

Hey there Dinsdale (and everyone else) -

I just wanted to let you know that I picked up my 16G today. Just fooling around with a little bit, it was very easy to see that there is quite a bit to this machine - but I I'll be having a ball learning this baby throughout.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

Blessings,

Nate.

My AW16G funds just went up in smoke!!!

The 1K referal bonus is not going to happen b/c my "friend" who accepted the position with my hospital was talked in to staying at her current job. She called to tell us Christmas eve when we expected her to start next week.

I guess I will be hanging out in the LO-FI 4-TRACK CASSETTE FORUM for a few more years

If anyone out there knows any echocardiographers (cardiac sonographers) looking to relocate to the quiet midwest send me a message.

I am tired of being understaffed, overworked and living in cassette land....sorry to gripe I was so looking forward to the AW16G.
