Avalon U5 vs. Trace Elliot

I have a Taylor 314ce with a Fishman Prefix preamp... I plugged it into a Trace Elliot amp and like the sound a lot, but I'd rather get a unit like the Avalon U5 and mount it on a rack than mic the trace/use the trace's lineout. How do the two compare? I know John Mayer uses the U5, but I'm not sure what else he might use to improve the sound. Thanks.

There was an article in TapeOp with Ray Benson from Asleep at The Wheel who commented on how he loves the U5 on guitars. I have never used it , but I do like the M5 for bass. I'd bet it's pretty nice. It's a good article, check their site out.
