Is the M5 just a single channel version of the Avalon dual Mono preamp? I was in GC this past weekend and the sales guy told me that they were the same.

Also based on the price how would this micpre compare to something like a RNP or a Grace 101?

Would the difference in price give me enough quality difference to justify the price?

Either of them would be used mainly for Male/Female Hip Hop Vox or Female r&B vox, maybe a little Male singing every now and then.

any comments or suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Malcolm

Yeah, the m5 is the exact pre as the dual version.

The M5 is a great step above the rnp and the grace. It seems to be a bit brighter than the rnp and the grace and has more sonic character. It's just a way better pre.

Personally, I would consider a single channel John Hardy preamp as well if you are looking for a neutral preamp.
