I can't figure this one out:

I've already used aux 1 and aux 2, and I've also already got an effect or two just on the various tracks, but I want to tweak a couple sections here and there with some extra EQ. I know how to use the "draw send to aux..." volume control, but it seems like I need another auxilliary channel or two or three in order to do my discrete additional tweaking. So how can I add an additional effect and just limit it's application to a small portion of a single track?

Go to preferences>option and you can select up to (I believe)32 aux channels.
There are several ways to accomplish adding effects to a portion of a track. The one I'm not familiar with is through the aux sends.Refer to the help file for details.I simply load up an effect on the track I want and select the region by click>drag. Then I (after making sure its what I want to do)I apply the effect with the hammer icon whacking a wave on the menu bar. This is destructive editing,so if you want to play around with the effect, first make a copy of the track you want to work on.This will allow you to experiment.

Thanks Tom. So, if I use your alternative, after I click the hammer icon, how do I choose which of the effects I want the "effect wave" to apply to? Will it give me a list?

BTW, the aux send method is really great because you can draw in the effect, so you can fade it in or whatever.

While I have you, am I correct about the following: I am looking at the playback volumeter to determine whether my total volume is clipping, etc...

Hi Larry
You load up your effects individually by track, one or several. When you select a region with click>drag ,all the effects on that track will be applied by the hammer-edit.
Tell me about drawing the effect with the volume evolution.
Yes,the playback volume meter is a good place to watch for clipping. But I generally watch the master fader knob in the mixer which will flicker red if clipping is present. If you have a clip at the output, back up and make sure if the effect levels of individual tracks aren't too hot. Most of the effects are metered. If those levels are ok,only then back off the master. There is an old analog rule of thumb that you subtract 2dB at the master out for each track in the mix.

Hey Tom-

If you want to draw an effect onto a particular track (or whichever tracks you like), you open the effect in an aux channel, slide up the fader that applies to that channel (the aux channel faders are located to the left of the aux channel boxes), and also slide up the fader that controls the aux channel underneath the particular track(s). (This much you probably know already.) To draw the volume evolution for the effect, click on the volume icon and select "draw send to aux __ volume". Then click on the applicable track, and click and drag on the timeline to your heart's content. The line that you create will control the volume of the effect on that track.

BTW, I have verson 2.2; I don't know about the earlier versions.

A problem I should mention is that I've been doing a lot of volume drawing on this song I'm working on and adding all that non-destructive stuff is overloading my sng file. I have to do some mixing down tonight. In that regard, let me ask you: I tried using the hammer icon to apply my heretofore non-destructive volume drawings destructively on a particular track, but it didn't work -- it just removed the volume drawings. Any clue as to what I did wrong?

I don't know why,sorry.
Looks like you need to mix down to free up your cpu.If you set up your effects as I mentioned earlier, you can record the fader automation with the "R" button in the mixer dialog. Then do your destructive edit and all the effects and changes should print to the hard drive.
