I cannot get my Mackie desk too connect with my lexicon using the aux send and returns. I'm using the Mackie direct outs with delta 10 10s ins. I suspect that this is the problem. Any advice is very welcome. I'm also using cubase 5 will it improve the quality of the sound if I use a more up to date version of cubase or is it just that you get more features. Thanks. Jim

First off, you must set up the necessary "busses" in Cubase both in and out.
Now I have Cubase but I don't have an 8 in 8out card so I have not tried this! In fact I tend to leave Cubase alone unless I absolutely have to go there!

I do however have a Delta 2496 card and yours would show you instantly if the mixer was sending signals in the Monitor Control panel. Once this is established you can move on, maybe to the Cubase section?

Dave.

Are you able to connect with the direct outs to the Delta? Is it just the aux send and returns that are causing trouble? What had you been hoping to do with them?

More current versions of Cubase will give you more features, but they won't improve sound quality.

The busses have been set. I can get 8 mono signals into Cubase, but when I try the aux return and send business so that I can attach my effects unit it wont dance it will work when I use it as an insert on the individual channel but that means I can only effect one channel at a time, thank you for taking the time to answer my post

There is a master aux send knob. turn that up. If that doesnt fix the problem, we need to troubleshoot.

Connect aux send 1 to the input of the lexicon

connect the output of the lexicon to the aux returns

send signal through a channel and turn up aux send 1 on that channel. Are you getting level at the lexicon?
If not, find the aux send master and turn it up. If so, good.

Plug an output from the lexicon into a channel on the board. Turn up the fader, do you hear the lexicon?
If so, plug it back into the aux input. If not, the lexicon or the cable is broken.

Sometimes there is a volume control for the aux return, make sure that is up

Sometimes there is a button that routes the aux input to the main mix or headphone mix or someplace elses. make sure that is set correctly.

Having said all that, the aux return is never sent to any of the direct outputs. If you are trying to hear the effects in cubase, it wont happen using the aux returns.

yes i can connect to the delta with direct outs, i want the desk to have an external effect added with the aux send and return feature so i can use the same effects on multiple channels i followed instructions but its not working im wondering if its because im using direct outs and not the main out put.

Which outputs of the board are you listening to?

There is no circumstance where the aux inputs will be routed to any of the direct outs. It will only get routed to the main output. If it doesn't make it to the main output, you need to tell me where you are losing the signal.

Are you attempting to record the effects? They won't show up at the direct outs using aux send/return so they won't be recorded.

I'm sure there's a way to record your effects (return to channels), but then you'll have a stereo effects track with the effects for all the channels mixed together. You won't get each channel from the Mackie to the computer with their effects separately applied. You'll have way more control using effects in Cubase.

The best use of your Lexicon is effects in headphone mixes while tracking. Add your keeper effects in Cubase.
