autotune (without effect!)

before i start i have both Autotune evo and melodyne =p

im trying to use autotune but i heard in order to not get the "t-pain" effect its best to tune each syllable. how is this possible? even in graphic mode i still hear the effect. i was recently in a studio and auto tune evo was used and the difference in the end result from the raw vocal track was immense. i didnt see how but asked what was used.

any tips on how to use autotune to achieve this result?

also can i cut my track into sections and just tune that way? because when i add autotune to the track it affects the entire wav as apose to the sections i want. im using cubase 5.

ive used melodyne and was happy with it, i just want to use auto tune to its full potential before i can decide which i favour most.

any help??

In graphic mode, you tell it to make the curve. Once it does, you grab the curve and move it to the note it needs to be centered on. The trick is to keep the human squiggle and just center the squiggle on the note. If you draw straight lines, it will sound like T-Pain.

And only mess with the stuff that needs to be tuned. Leave everything else alone.

1. track the pitch in graphic mode
2. hit the 'make curve' button
3. select the arrow tool
4. use the arrow tool to grab the squiggle and move it up or down to the correct pitch

All of this is explained in the manual in much more detail.
 
Hit the right notes when you sing it. :D
 
He didn't ask how to get a good vocal track, he asked how to use auto-tune without it sounding like T-Pain.

In Melodyne you take the pitch modulation tool and flatten the modulation curve on all notes.

EDIT: Nevermind, this is how you sound like t pain in melodyne. Sorry.

To answer your question more: Tracking with as little background noise as possible is also something to try to achieve as best as possible.
