Autotune plugin

ok... I wanted to try this little program and ive never used a plugin before, i dont even know what a plugin consist of.... Now I downloaded this Antares one, but i cant even find an .exe file to open up the program and there were different versions, like the one i downloaded said u must run it through direct x, i dont even know what im sopposed to do for that.

Would it be possible if somebody could tell me a site where i can dl a free one or a demo thats pretty easy to use and tell me how to use it? can u even download plugins? Thank You

ok, I'm assuming you downloaded the free demo version of Autotune from the Antares website. Well, Autotune IS the plug-in, what you need is a host program to run autotune in. The programs that you need are things like Sonar, Cubase, or Digital Performer. These however are expensive programs and not worth buying if you just want to experiment with autotune. Do a google on "free music sequencers" and see if anything pops up. You might be able download a demo and then use autotune as a plug in inside the sequencer. It is not quite as simple as you might have hoped.

Did you download the DXi or VST version of the program? I believe acid supports VST, but I may be wrong. If you downloaded it, there should be a folder for it after you install it. Just go into that folder and make sure there is a file in there that has a DLL extension. If it's there, then open acid and look in your effects. It should already be listed there. If not, then uninstall the anteres and reinstall it. Then reboot your pc and try to open acid again.
 
Is there a demo version of this for Pro Tools LE? I'd like to take a look at this plug-in too.
 
Yeah acid will work

You can run a direct X program in any audio program that supports direct X, most if not all do support it. The Antares auto tune plug in is great, but be careful how you use it. If your gonna slap it over an entire vocal track I suggest using it fairly relaxed. To use the plug in, you simply choose the vocal register, male, female, tenor etc.. Choose the scale and key in which there singing and adjust the knobs for relaxed and choosy to your liking. It's funny, after you use it for a while you'll start hearing it on almost track thats out there. You really can hear it working, so use it sparingly. I try not to use it at all unless I simply can't get the performance out of my singer. Even then I put the phrases or single lyric on separate tracks so I can adjust only the problem area. Also run it as a plugin in your mix for a while before you commit to permanently applying it to the track.
 
I agree, it can sound artificial if you don't use it right. I tried it for awhile. You can download it and try it free for a short time. I never quite got the hang of using it well, and when I used it to fix a bump here and there, I could tell. There is no substitue for good singing. Just listen to Ashley Simpson or Hilary Duff....

Pro Tools only works on windows 98 or ME. If you are running XP or 2000, forget it.

Finally got home after running around the globe for the last month. (traveling sucks)

Thanks Rokkett for leting him now it only works with 98! Pissed me off when I found this out on my own.
