Autocue systems?

I'm pretty crap at remembering the lyrics on my own compositions.
I could do with a pretty basic autocue system - I think using a music stand with printed lyrics looks intrusive and unprofessional, though that's what I've been tending to use for want of something better.
Anybody here got any experience with anything like this?

Nobody uses an auto cue in the studio, every time ive seen an artist record, they either have the paper they wrote it on in their hand, or a music stand, its just the norm, it would seem extremely intrusive to have an auto cue or overhead projector

Its not common, but I've seen people with small (i.e. unobtrusive... maybe 17"?) TFT computer screens mounted on a stand/lectern thing in their live room / vocal booth.

This screen could either be hooked up to a standalone computer (maybe a little mini-ITX one hidden under the stand) or connected up to the main DAW in the control room and probably set to mirror the display of one of the engineer's screens, so the engineer can easily put something up for the performer to see/read/etc.

To be honest I don't see what's wrong with a sheet of paper, but something like that would be a lot cheaper than a proper auto-cue system. If you wanted the lyrics larger with scrolling/timed transitions like on a proper auto-cue, you could probably find some software that would easily do it for you (and maybe even sync with the DAW) or simply set up a powerpoint presentation that you could scroll through yourself with a mouse or set to advance automatically.

Its probably towards the bottom of my list of priorities, but if/when my little studio gets constructed in the next year or so I plan to put in at least one VGA or DVI tieline between the live room and control room in case I ever wanted to do something like this. Better to have the wiring there than to not :)

Ok, I should've specified - I meant for use when performing live.
:)

I don't see the big deal with music stands. Sure, the more you look at the words when you sing the more amateur you look. But would you rather screw up a song or look a little unrehearsed? EVENTUALLY you should be able to memorize all the songs and play them without the words.
